Spring /Summer term topics PDF Print E-mail

Given the short Spring term, our Art topics have been continued over into the Summer term!

Years 1/2 are exploring aspects of the natural environmentand using natural forms as the basis for textile design. We shall be experimenting with simple techniques for applique, embroidery, fabric crayons and added decorations, and applying print techniques to fabric.

Years 3/4 are investigating the design of chairs and looking at how their form is related to purpose and use. We have been studying examples of designs in the past, from other cultures and by contemporary designers as inspiration for developing our own imaginative designs for a chair for a particular character / occasion, and have experimented with materials and techniques to construct a model chair to our own designs.

Years 5/6 have been investigating ceremonial masks worn in different times and cultures. Having focussed particularly on African masks and those from S.E.Asia, we have designed and made a series of masks in similar styles using a range of materials and constructional techniques.

Years 7/8 are investigating the field of animation, and exploring the skills/techniques employed to create different effects. After beginning with freeze-frame sequences and observational sketches, we have now moved on to look at early Victorian optical devices/toys and using our own drawn moving images to demonstrate similar simple principles of animation, before studying the Pop-Art work of artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, cartoon art and further animation techniques.

Don't forget to check out the corridor spaces for evidence of our creativity across the school!
