U9's Hockey Team Win Victoriously PDF Print E-mail
Thornlow's U9 hockey team had their first victorious win against Park School this week.  We fielded an incredible team who demonstrated a fantastic grasp of the game - from skills to exemplary teamwork.  Against tough competition, Thornlow commanded the game from the start with Sam Young having an attempt at goal within only minutes off the starting whistle - sadly the goal was disallowed but that only spurred our team on.  Seconds later we witnessed team captain Robert Hunter putting the ball into the back of the net with incredible confidence and strength - a superb goal from within "The D", set up by the skill of Harry Phillpott.

The team's morale was high going into the second ten minutes and after only 3 minutes in, Sam Young was this time successful and scored Thornlow's second goal of the match - taking a strike at goal from the side of the pitch - a remarkable achievement and no easy score.  There appeared no stopping Sam Young as he went on to score his second, Thornlow's third, goal only 2 minutes later, meaning we would start the final 10 minutes 3-0 up - psychologically always a great position to be in.

Throughout the game, our defence provided an incredible barrier against Park's attack; we witnessed pace and speed from Max Care and tactical judgement from Thomas Young.  Toby Jones and Harry Owens managed the back row's free hits as it states in the coaching manual; every strike made counted.  Joseph Frazier and Christopher Farran complemented the team's capability by always being in the right place to put in that jab and block tackle too. No defence team would be complete without obvious mention of the goal-keeper.  Alex Bennett's continued motivation from the back-line meant the team were continually pulled together and he went on to make a  text book save only 1 minute from the final whistle - stopping the ball with his stick before kicking it away with great vigour, an incredible save preventing a Park score on the board.

Thank you for hosting the match Park School you made us feel extremely welcome and provided some incredible competition - thank you too must go to Larry Tullett , Games Director at Park School and all his fellow supporters who provided wonderful after match refreshments.
