Thornlow Preparatory School were the special guests of English Heritage who opened the

castle especially for them. The castle is normally closed during January. 

The first part of the visit was spent learning how to fire a muzzle loading cannon. Afterwards the children moved on to look at the Gun Platform before settling down in the kitchen to make butter.
