A group of youngsters from Thornlow Preparatory School in Weymouth will be selling their eco-friendly shopping bags on board Condor Ferries in their Duty Free shop.

Year Seven and Eight pupils from the School came up with the “Bags 4 U” concept and then pitched it to bosses at Condor.

As well as winning sponsorship from Condor Ferries for the environmentally friendly bags, students have also been given permission to sell 250 of them in the Duty Free shop on board their high speed catamaran service to the Channel Islands.

Priced at £1.50 each the cotton bags are printed in full colour and incorporate the design of a stylised ship and lighthouse alongside the word ‘Dorset’.

The bags include the school’s emblem alongside the logos of Condor Ferries and fellow sponsors Cove Yacht Brokerage.

Condor’s Marketing Manager, Justin Amey, said: “We were all genuinely impressed with the amount of work the “Bags 4 U” team had put into this project.

“They have managed to take the bags from concept through design and now into production and I am sure they will prove popular with our passengers

“They’ll be on sale in our Duty Free Shop alongside our wine, spirits, perfume and other goods and would make the perfect bags to carry all your great savings away in!” he added.

Kyle, managing director for the group behind “Bags 4 U”, said: “It’s been quite a good experience of learning how to be a better leader and picking up business skills that will help in life in the future.”

The course was the brainchild of teacher Lucy Clarke, who, before moving into education, had 14 years of business experience from Asda, Mars UK Ltd & R. Twinings Ltd. 

The “Bags4u” team comprises Kyle, Curtis, Lucy, Jed, Fionn and Olivia. All profits from sales of the bags are being donated to “Julia’s House, The Dorset”, a charity chosen by the entrepreneurs. Children’s Hospice
