Reception Visit to South Buckland Farm. PDF Print E-mail

On Thursday 18th March 2010 the Nursery and Reception children visited South Buckland Farm at Chickerell.

We were blessed with beautiful weather and had a thoroughly good time.

Our first visit was to the lambing shed where we saw the ewes waiting to deliver their lambs. Bottle feeding the lambs was an exciting and even a little scary experience for some! Then Pete pointed out that one ewe was ready to give birth and we were able to witness the amazing sight of a lamb being born in front of us!

Then we moved on to look at the cows and calves and saw Derek the bull, thankfully from a safe distance.

We enjoyed our snacks and were able to recycle the peelings and cores via Vicky the pig who had just had a litter of 7 piglets. It was amazing to see and touch such young piglets. They are pedigree Oxford Sandy and Blacks and very attractive!

We also visited the other pigs, horses and ended our morning with the chicken who kindly supplied an egg for each of us to take home.

A wonderful experience that we will never forget!
