In the Reception class the day is divided into two halves.
In the mornings, children develop their skills in reading, writing and mathematics. They make frequent visits to the library, cookery room, computer suite and garden.
Afternoons are for hands-on activities: science, art and craft and construction.

Reception Bird Experience Day. |
Reception have been learning about birds recently and were fortunate to be visited by some really interesting ones this week.
Firstly Delilah, the Harris Hawk, visited our classroom. We learned lots of interesting information about her and were even able to stroke her beautiful feathers. Her owner left some pellets that we were able to examine. Just like real scientists, we posed the question of what she eats and experimented with taking the pellets apart to answer our question. We found feathers, fur, bone and possibly claws and beaks. We then recorded our findings in our books about her.
In the afternoon Mr. Harley visited us with two cockatiels. A male who we named Ollie and a female who we named Emily. He showed us how to prepare the nest box as they will probably soon be laying eggs. We asked lots of questions and were interested in the answers. We were fascinated to see how attached they are to each other and how upset they became when one was taken a few metres from the cage. Again, we were able to tickle their necks and Emily enjoyed nibbling William's tracksuit top zip and Mrs. Clothier's earring.
