Nursery's Great Farm Adventure! |
Everyone in Nursery had an amazing time on our farm visit this week, we saw everything from newly born lambs, cows and pigs - we could even identify their footprints from the work we'd been doing in the classroom!
The 16th March 2011 was a beautiful sunny morning; the perfect weather for visiting Higher South Buckland Farm at Nottington where we were welcomed by Pete and Jen Davies. Firstly we visited the lambing shed to see a lamb that was only an hour old. We stroked some other lambs and felt their hearts beating really quickly.
We then watched the pedigree cows munching on sugar beet and saw the differences between the breeds. Next we visited the adult pigs and saw Ivor the big new boar. The pigs were huge and they really loved eating the cores and peel that we fed them after we ate our snacks!
Before we left we visited the chickens who were kind enough to let us all have an egg to take home for tea.
We have not stopped talking about all that we saw and did on the farm - thank you Pete and Jen for a memorable morning!

Developing Listening Skills in Nursery |
Mrs Stanton brought Nursery's "senses" work to life by developing a wonderful listening activity. Children excitedly volunteered to play an instrument from behind the hidden instrument station, whilst a second volunteer had to listen very carefully to identify and then select a similar instrument from their side. The children had a wonderful experience and the joy on their faces when they guessed correctly said it all!

Farm Animal Footprints discovered in Nursery! |
Thornlow's Nursery children had alot of fun learning about farm animals today, covering a variety of topics including baby animal names and footprint recognition, all in preparation for their forthcoming visit to a local farm next week. The children created their own farm animal collage using potato stamps of pig, horse, dog and chicken footprints!
